NPL Matchday #5
Now that teams are more than a month into their seasons, the title races in NorCal Premier Soccer’s National Premier League are truly heating up. Three points earned or not earned this weekend could make the difference as the competition nears its thrilling conclusion.
Here are your NPL games of the week:
U17 Boys Champions League
El Dorado Hills Soccer Club 2 – Association Football Club 1
Friday, 4/28 8:00 p.m. @ Promontory (11v11)
Roughly halfway into the U17 Boys Champions League, just three points separate first place from seventh as all nine teams in the division can realistically consider themselves in the title race. Two of those clubs, third-place Association Football Club and fourth-place El Dorado Hills Soccer Club, face off Friday night under the lights. With a win, either would temporarily move to the top of the table.
U19 Girls ECNL-RL
Diablo Valley Wolves 1 – MVLA 2
Goalscorers:
MVLA: Pesati, Mitchem
Diablo: Flores
League-leading MVLA kept their spot at the top of the U19 Girls ECNL-RL thanks to a 2-1 victory over Diablo Valley Wolves Saturday. The visitors got out to an early lead, with Ishita Pesati and Kaya Mitchem both scoring in the first half to take a 2-0 advantage into the break. Diablo mounted a late comeback, with Kelly Flores scoring in the 60th minute, but the hosts never were able to equalize.
U16 Boys Champions League
Association Football Club 0 – East Bay United 2
Goalscores:
EBU: Oh, Babbit
East Bay United kept their spot at the top of the U16 Boys Champions League, defeating Association Football Club 2-0 this past weekend to give EBU 13 points from six games. Both goals came in the second half for East Bay, with Jayden Oh scoring in the 55th minute before Carter Babbit took a feed from Andrew Hernandez and hit the back of the net in the 75th minute.
U17 Girls ECNL-RL
San Carlos United 1 – Burlingame Soccer Club 1
Goalscorers:
San Carlos: Own Goal
Burlingame: Spenner
In a back-and-forth, tight contest, both San Carlos United and Burlingame SC continued their unbeaten runs in the U17 Girls ECNL-RL. Burlingame took the lead on a well-worked goal that ended with Elise Spenner lobbing the goalkeeper before San Carlos pushed numbers forward to attempt to get back in the game. The hosts drew level just after the break, though an own goal from a Burlingame defender. The match would end 1-1, with the two sides splitting the points.
