It may be only matchday #3 in the NPL, but already there are fewer than two months left to play before May’s NPL College Showcase. Points, as always, are at a premium as teams will want to enter showcase weekend with a chance to capture the title at what’s expected to be a festive event.

Here are your NPL games of the week:

U14 Boys Champions League

Association Football Club 0 – Turlock Academica Jrs 2

In one of the mostly tightly-contested divisions this early in the season, an astounding five teams are within one point of the top of the U14 Boys Champions League table likely due to the fact that four of the nine matches thus far have ended in draws. Two of those five teams play each other this weekend: second-place Turlock Academica Jrs and third-place Association Football Club. Should either side win, they’ll vault to the top of the table but a draw between the two will only keep the title race even tighter.

U17 Boys Champions League

Union Sacramento 0 – San Jose Surf 1

It’s early days in the U17 Boys Champions League as no team has played more than three matches, but so far San Jose Surf have managed to give themselves a two point cushion at the top of the table. In racing to the top, Surf have hit the back of the net five times in just two games while only allowing a single goal. Their opponents this weekend are Union Sacramento, one of the two squads two points behind Surf, though Union have played three games already.

U17 Girls ECNL Regional League

West Coast Soccer 2 – MVLA 2

While West Coast Soccer currently sit in sixth place in the U17 Girls ECNL Regional League, it’s only due to the fact that they’ve played just one game so far: an impressive 3-1 away win against San Francisco United. Given that all but one team ahead of them in the table has already dropped points, a victory this weekend could see West Coast vault as high as second. One of those teams who has dropped points already is MVLA, who have four points from three games but could jump to a tie for first place with a victory.

U16 Girls ECNL Regional League

Pajaro Valley Youth Soccer Club 2 – Palo Alto SC 0

Coming into this past weekend’s U16 Girls ECNL Regional League matchup, Palo Alto SC hadn’t dropped a single point, while Pajaro Valley Youth Soccer club had yet to earn a point. However, thanks to strong play from Sophia Martel, the Watsonville-area club claimed their first positive result of the season while knocking off the top dog. The win put Pajaro just three points off of first place, while Palo Alto failed to capitalize on their perfect start and now sit in second.
