Defending NPL National Champions, Davis Legacy 98, continued their fantastic start to the 2016-17 NPL campaign with a 2-0 win over their Region 6 rival, Placer United 98, this past Saturday at the Davis Legacy Soccer Complex. After few chances for either team in the opening period, Davis scored a crucial goal just before the halftime whistle when Mia Root struck from just outside the eighteen off an assist from Sidra Bugsch. Trying to find the equalizer, Placer United began on the front foot in the second half, but were unlucky to go down 2-0 from an own goal. Heavy pressure from Davis striker, Ele Avery, rushed a clearance attempt from the Placer goalkeeper which hit off her own defender and rolled into the Placer net. From there, Davis saw out the remainder of the match, with goalkeeper MacKenzie Hatanake keeping the clean sheet. | |||||

Santa Clara Sporting 99 turned-the-tables on the defending NorCal NPL Champions, Force 98, on Sunday morning at the Santa Clara Sports Park with a commanding 6-2 win. Sporting scored early and often, with Chloe Cacoyannis opening the scoring in the 16th minute on a 25 yard blast. Five minutes later, after a fine combination play, Belinda Ascencio slipped in Alicia Talancon who finished to give Sporting a 2-0 lead they would hold until half. The second half started with more of the same as Kyllie Glock made an amazing dribbling run before finishing in the low corner. Moments later, Ascencio scored the fourth for Sporting from an assist by Ally Kammerer. In the 70th minute, Joelle Anderson's well place penalty pulled a goal back for Force, however, the momentum was short-lived as Sofie Mendoza scored a minute later to put Sporting in front 5-1. Mendoza then set up a sixth goal, scored by Victoria Chavez. Anderson scored her second of the match for Force to finish off the scoring in the 90th minute but the game was well out of reach at that point. |
