NorCal NPL Match Day #14
After this past weekend of play, the NPL season is officially more than halfway finished. And with the NPL College Showcase on May 18 and 19 at the Davis Legacy Soccer Complex accounting for the final two matchdays, only one standalone date remains for teams hoping to capture their respective NPL championships. Still, it was another excellent weekend of soccer all across Northern California.
Saturday, April 21st
U16 GIRLS NPL 2
California Odyssey Red 2, Livermore Fusion 0
Scorers: Phillips, Gonzales
Coming into this past weekend, three teams sat atop the U16 NPL 2 division with six points from two games, two of which were the California Odyssey and the Livermore Fusion, meaning that the winner of this game would go along way towards taking control of the league. California Odyssey did just that, knocking off Livermore via a 2-0 scoreline. Taylor Phillips scored just four minutes into the game thanks to a feed from Evan house, before Karina Gonzales put the game away in the 39th minute to keep the Odyssey in first place.
Sunday, April 22nd
U17 BOYS NPL 1
Galt FC Tarascos 1, Davis Legacy 0
Scorer: Ruiz
In what was a crucial matchup for both sides as they looked to make up ground on the first-place San Jose Earthquakes, Galt FC came out on top over the Davis Legacy to improve to 3-0-0 on the season thus far. Lionardo Ruiz made the difference for the hosts, scoring the only goal of the game in the 27th minute to drop the Legacy to 1-1-1 on the season.
