As summer continues into its hottest months, several top-level NPL squads will continue their pursuit of national championships.

On the girls side, three different teams from two different clubs will attend the NPL National Finals in Colorado from July 12-16.

While in the boys, Napa Soccer Academy are still alive in the first-ever ENPL.

Congrats to all the teams on qualifying! Here is a little more info on each NorCal squad that will look to take home the title (and for more information on the event, click here):

San Juan Spirits 04

Record: 6-1-0 (first place)

Key Moments: With a logjam of events during the Champions League season, San Juan were forced to play three games on the final weekend of play and needed to win all three and garner some help from other squads, which turned out to be the case as they finished top of the group.

A word from the staff: “It is important for our club to be involved in NPL Nationals. San Juan has been a top club for years and competing in prestigious events like this only adds to as well as continues our story of being in these top level competitions.” – Acting Head Coach Iain Fraser

Marin FC 02

Record: 6-0-1 (first place)

Key Moments: Coming into the final weekend, four teams, including defending NPL National champions FC Elk Grove were separated by just three points, with Marin FC scheduled to play two of those squads. Marin made no mistake, winning each of their games to finish unbeaten on the year and claim the top spot.

A word from the staff: “Our team will compete hard from the first minute to the end. All of these kids have played in big games with Marin FC and their high school teams, so they are battle-tested and accustomed to tight, nip and tuck games that hinge on one game-breaking play or one mistake. We have a potent offense but a very stingy defense and can match up with just about any style. The girls really play for each other and this is the glue that gets them over the top in tight games. I think we can rely on this togetherness and team bond to help us advance.” – Head Coach Kelly Coffee

Marin FC 01

Record: 7-0-0 (first place)

Key Moments: While Marin FC cruised through the Champions League with a perfect record and a plus-19 goal differential, it was only on the last day of the fall season that they even qualified for the spring’s top league.

A word from the staff: “It’s great for the club to have teams back at the NPL finals, especially sending two this year. Though a handful of players won’t be making the trip, we still feel that we can be competitive. The squad has a couple of capable goal scorers and we will look to open the game and out-chance our opponents if nothing else.” – Head Coach Tyler Gottschalk

Napa Soccer Academy 03

Meanwhile, Napa Soccer Academy’s 03 boys won all of their games, outscoring their opponents by a 9-0 margin, at the ENPL to qualify for the semifinals, which begin this week in Colorado.

“Coach Eric Franco and I were extremely pleased with the way our boys played in San Diego,” said head coach Gabe Rood. “We felt we played our brand of soccer of attacking and attractive soccer and at the same time we were very good defensively as we did not concede one goal the entire tournament.”
