For the second straight year, NorCal Premier Soccer hosted its Futsal State Cup, a fast-paced competition between five-a-side teams that took place over President’s Day Weekend at the Cal Expo Fairgrounds in Sacramento.

After successfully organizing the first event in 2023, NorCal expanded the competition, with one additional age group added and a field that was nearly 50 percent larger than last year’s edition.

Overall, 24 different champions were awarded, with State and Gold Divisions in the U9-U14 age groups for both girls and boys.

“Our goal is to eventually expand our futsal programming to include a full winter season for teams to compete in over a longer period of time,” NorCal Premier Soccer Director of Competitions Dan Chamberlain said at the event. “This is just the beginning. We see a tremendous amount of value in the benefits that futsal provides for the development of players.”

This year, 155 different teams participated, with each guaranteed play in a group stage before cutting to Monday’s semifinal and final rounds.

Of the 12 State Division champions, 11 came from different clubs, with only Mustang SC taking home multiple titles. Additional clubs to lift the State title were 1974 Newark FC, Albion SC Merced, Ballistic United, Bay Area Surf, CV Futbol Academy, Diablo Valley Wolves, Marin FC, MVLA, SF Elite Academy, and Walnut Creek Surf.
