Two NorCal Clubs, in Conjunction with LIGA NorCal, to Host Fundraiser Saturday
In the wake of the destruction caused by the fires in Northern California, NorCal Premier Soccer has focused its current attention towards providing as much help as possible to those in need — over 250 NorCal families have lost homes so far.
One way NorCal has begun helping is through our fundraiser, which we’ve pledged to match up to the first $100,000 in donations (click here to donate).
But more individuals and organizations are taking upon themselves to help the situation as much as possible, such as this weekend’s youth and LIGA NorCal doubleheader put on by Walnut Creek Soccer Club and Contra Costa FC.
The two clubs have partnered with Napa United to play a pair of games Saturday October 21, with 100 percent of the proceeds going towards those impacted by the fires.
In the doubleheader, Walnut Creek’s U16s will take on Napa United’s U16s at 5 p.m., followed by a LIGA NorCal match between Contra Costa FC and Napa United with admission set at $5.
“The idea to do a benefit game came up a few days after the fires started,” said Walnut Creek SC and Contra Costa FC in a joint statement. “The huge impact of the tragedy was clear and CCFC and WCSC began to look at ways that each of the clubs could help.”
Added NorCal Premier Director of Adult Soccer Cris Gilmore: “It’s great seeing them come together for such an important cause and I hope we can get a large turnout from the community.”
For Gilmore, the participation of the LIGA NorCal squads, which are part of the clubs and the community, is something he hopes to see more of.
“Our hope at NorCal is more adult teams affiliate with youth clubs across the region,” he said. “This will continue to create deeper social roots while also creating consistent soccer opportunities and development for our young adults.”
