LIGA NorCal Matchday No. 4

Just four dates into the 2019-20 season, LIGA NorCal has already seen massive success, huge upsets, and a series of exciting matches. And the area’s premier adult league was back in action this weekend with 11 games over two days in two different divisions. Here is your LIGA NorCal Game of the Week recap:

JASA  2- Santa Clara Sporting 3

Goalscorers: Sporting: Ceballos, DeQuiroz, Snyder

JASA: Abrego, Esprella

Coming into the weekend in the LIGA Regional – Peninsula Soccer League, Santa Clara Sporting sat at the top of the table with a perfect record, and the traditional Bay Area powerhouse was able to maintain that streak thanks to a 3-2 victory over hosts JASA Sunday.

Sporting scored early through Javier Ceballos before JASA leveled the match thanks to Christian Abrego, only for Santa Clara to score twice more on strikes from Matt DeQuiroz and Jonah Synder to give the visitors a two-goal lead late.

JASA attempted to rally, but could only find the back of the net once more, this time thanks to Alexis Esprella.

“It was a good game, this is our third game and and as far as my satisfaction with the players, we’re getting a lot of our players who went to college coming back to town so we have a mixture of  different players,” said Sporting manager Luis Azevedo. “The result was good, we didn’t play as well, but that’s okay, it’s all part of the game.”

“We’ve done very well. We didn’t do as well yesterday, but soccer is like that, but a lot had to do with the other team…every time we play against JASA, it’s a competitive game,” he added. “The thing I really enjoy about NorCal, we didn’t use any of our younger players this week, but if we need to, we can, and that’s how I grew up playing.”
I think we were disappointed because we think we had a good enough team to win it, but we gave up some weak goals,” said JASA player/manager Bob Weger. “We’re always happy to hang with Sporting, they’re consistently the top team in the league and always bring quality.”
