Despite falling behind in each of their last two State Cup games, Sacramento United finally led first in their cup final that doubled as a derby against Union Sacramento. In front of a large crowd, Union was unlucky not to score in the 1st half as they controlled large portions of the half but could only come up with a couple of chances. Sac United, got going in the second half with an individual moment of brilliance that put them ahead, with Jason Welch striking a 30-yard free kick into the upper left corner. Moments later, in the 56th minute, Cole Barrett got around the corner and found Christopher Meyers with a cut back, allowing Meyers to blast the ball into the net for a 2-0 advantage. Union did pull a goal back through Uzoigwe Okugo in stoppage time, but it was too little, too late for Union as Sacramento United took home the cup.
