Game of the Week: San Jose Earthquakes vs. San Francisco Deltas
When: Wednesday June 14, 7:30 p.m.
Where: Avaya Stadium, San Jose
Competition: U.S. Open Cup
Additional Info: After sweeping the first two Open Cup games in club history, the San Francisco Deltas enter the fourth round of the competition with a stiff task at home: facing the top division San Jose Earthquakes in what amounts to the first-ever competitive meeting between the clubs. While the Deltas have gotten off to a flying start in their inaugural season and currently stand in third place in the NASL, the Earthquakes are currently on the outside of the MLS playoff picture and could see this cup game as an opportunity to get back on track. Game of the Week: Sacramento Republic FC vs. Real Salt Lake
When: Wednesday June 14, 8:00 p.m.
Where: Papa Murphy’s Park, Sacramento
Competition: U.S. Open Cup
Additional Info: Unlike seasons past, in which they took the USL by storm, Sacramento Republic FC have largely struggled to both score goals and win games this year. But their cup form has been impeccable, as the Republic have scored six goals in two games while allowing none. Their next opponents will be their toughest yet, though, as Real Salt Lake head to California’s capital for what is the first-ever competitive game between the Republic and an MLS side at Papa Murphy’s Park.
