100 Champions Anointed as U9/U10 State Cup Finishes
Over the course of two days at Davis Legacy Soccer Complex and Granite Regional Park in Sacramento, 100 different U9 and U10 State Cup champions were crowned in the culmination of an event that began more than three months prior.
In what’s the largest state cup competition in the country, teams were whittled down to just four per bracket prior to this weekend, setting up an exciting two days of action in which teams played in the semifinals and then finals, with just a handful of squads coming out on top.
“It was a great weekend of competition, one that featured tons of high quality games that went down to the wire in a competitive manner,” said U9-U13 NorCal State Cup Coordinator John Stoppelmann. “The beauty of the NorCal State Cup is that we’re able to balance the divisions so that each team plays other teams of similar skill levels, ensuring for the best possible development for all players.”
The matches going final this Saturday and Sunday, represents the end of the first part of NorCal Premier Soccer’s State Cup, which began the year with more than 3,300 teams from the U9-U14 age groups.
Also in play this weekend were sides from the U11 and U12 Gold, Silver, and Bronze divisions, which played round of 16 and quarterfinal matchups at Mistlin Sports Complex in Ripon and Turlock Sports Complex.
But as for the U9 and U10 State Cup, four overall champions were determined, with the State Division titles coming down to the wire on each day.
