While California Odyssey captured last year’s State Cup title on penalties, they had a much stronger performance with the same result in 2019, this time against San Juan SC.

Eight minutes into the game, winger Christian Silva slotted the opener into the far post before doubling California’s advantage in the 15th minute after getting onto the end of a corner kick.

But San Juan wouldn’t go away and Elijah Beverly won a penalty in the 23rd minute before midfielder Preston Moll converted to bring the scoreline within one.

San Juan then sent waves into the attack for the remainder of the match with hope of winning, hope that was dashed when Juan Serrano Jaramillo found Enrique Gutierrez Jr., who clinched the match with a powerful header that made the score 3-1.
