2019 NorCal NPL Fall Showcase Recap: U19 Boys
NPL 1 East
Division Winner: Sacramento United
Champions League Qualifiers: Sacramento United, Mavericks, California Odyssey, Union Sacramento
In what was essentially a title game Sunday, Sacramento United defeated Mavericks via a 2-1 scoreline to claim the NPL 1 East championship. Though United only needed a draw, a late winner sealed the deal after Mavericks dropped points on the first day of the showcase. Still, Mavericks ended up in second place and the pair of sides are joined in the spring’s Champions League with California Odyssey and Union Sacramento, who both finished a point ahead of San Juan SC. San Juan needed six points to qualify but could only garner four with Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Union serving them the death knell and rendering an 8-0 victory over CV Surf the following day meaningless.
NPL 1 West
Division Winner: Force Academy II
Champions League Qualifiers: Force Academy II, Lamorinda, Santa Clara Sporting, Palo Alto
While Force and Lamorinda SC entered this weekend tied for first on points, Force ended up winning the division thanks to a pair of wins, while Lamorinda could only manage a victory and a draw. Still, both comfortably qualified for the Champions League along with Santa Clara Sporting, who put up nine goals while failing to allow a single strike. Finishing in fourth place in the division was Palo Alto SC, who garnered four points over the weekend and easily made it to the spring’s top division thanks to fifth-place San Francisco Elite dropping both of their games.
NPL 2 East
Division Winner: EBU Bay Oaks
After both East Bay United and Walnut Creek Surf picked up victories on Saturday, the two squared off Sunday in what was essentially a title game. East Bay United prevailed via a 1-0 scoreline and earned the divisions sole NPL 1 berth for the spring.
NPL 2 West
Division Winner: Alpine Strikers
With a perfect 21 points from seven games, Alpine Strikers FC have already clinched the NPL 2 West and its only qualification spot for the spring’s NPL 1.
