U16 Boys NorCal NPL Fall Showcase Preview

NPL 1 North

It’s hard to say anything except for that the top of the NPL 1 North division is a tight race. While Placer United leads the group with 18 points, even they aren’t assured of one of the four Champions League spot with two games left to play. Still, Placer are likely to make it even without a single point thanks to being three points ahead of fifth-place Napa Soccer Academy (15 points). Santa Rosa United (16 points) currently stand in second, while Atletico Santa Rosa (15) and Sacramento United (15) round out the top five. One of these five sides will fail to qualify for the Champions League in what should be an exciting round of games.

NPL 1 South

In the NPL 1 South, five teams have realistic shots of wrapping one of the four Champions League berths. Leaders Lamorinda United (6-0-1) stand at the top of the table and have already qualified, but will still look to wrap up the division title with just a point from either of their two games. Meanwhile, Santa Clara Sporting (14 points) seems the next likely to qualify given their four point lead over fourth and fifth-place Turlock and SF Elite (10 points each). Force (3-1-3) have proved a difficult side to beat and should be among the contenders for a Champions League spots as well.

NPL 2 East

While 4-1-1 Atletico United currently stand at the top of the NPL 2 East table, it’s second-place South Valley United (4-1-0) that currently controls their own destiny for the only spring NPL 1 spot up for grabs in the division. Should South Valley win both of their remaining games, they will qualify. Regardless of what happens, each side is guaranteed a spot in at least the NPL 2 as Folsom Lake Earthquakes, Davis Legacy, and FC Elk Grove will each participate in the NPL 3 in the spring.
