Welcome to the Spring Season

Hello and welcome back from a long winter break! We are excited to get going again and see everyone back out on the pitch this spring. At this moment when every team is undefeated, we wanted to take a moment to speak directly with all of the soccer families in NorCal about our purpose and a few reminders as we prepare to go compete, coach, cheer, and observe another season of soccer.

We at NorCal, believe that the pursuit of high-level activity has inherent value and that soccer is the best choice of activity, being the best sport in the world. While we want to see better players, coaches, and teams, and reward success on the field, we also know that true success in this sport comes from the pursuit part of that first sentence. The level you achieve as a player or team, in the long run, is much less relevant than what you learn in the pursuit of trying to become the best version of yourself.

Players, as you begin the season remember that…

• the manner in which we pursue excellence is more important than the excellence itself.
• our opponent is a partner in our development and without them, we would have no game and no opportunity to excel.
• we learn far more from adversity than from success and that each perceived setback is actually an opportunity for growth.
• referees are human and they will make mistakes, but they are there to do an honest job. They deserve to be treated with dignity and respect at all times.

Parents and family members…

• Remember that our behavior on the sideline is being watched by someone at all times and we are modeling and teaching far more with our actions than with our words.
• Join NorCal in working to make the sideline a more positive experience for players, coaches, and referees by taking the Sideline Pledge to eliminate disruptive and distracting behaviors.

Finally, US Soccer has recently released new guidelines related to Referee Abuse Prevention. In a first step, US Soccer has released clearer definitions of referee abuse and has assigned mandatory minimum suspensions for each category. NorCal firmly believes that abuse directed at anyone has no place in our game and will be working to implement these new guidelines alongside US Soccer, US Club, and our referee partners. As a reminder, NorCal holds the coaches and clubs responsible for the behavior of their spectators, meaning that the behavior of spectators may result in a red card and suspension for the coach, or sanctions placed on the club as a whole. We strongly encourage all parents and spectators to read through the new US Soccer Guidelines as well as the NorCal Premier guidance issued to referees and join us in creating a better soccer environment for everyone in the game.

¡Hola y bienvenidos de regreso después de un largo descanso de invierno! Estamos emocionados de comenzar nuevamente y ver a todos de vuelta en el campo esta primavera. En este momento, cuando todos los equipos están invictos, queremos tomarnos un momento para hablar directamente con todas las familias del fútbol en NorCal sobre nuestro propósito y algunos recordatorios mientras nos preparamos para competir, entrenar, animar y observar otra temporada de fútbol.

En NorCal, creemos que la búsqueda de una actividad de alto nivel tiene un valor inherente y que el fútbol es la mejor opción de actividad, siendo el mejor deporte del mundo. Si bien queremos ver mejores jugadores, entrenadores y equipos, y recompensar el éxito en el campo, también sabemos que el verdadero éxito en este deporte proviene precisamente de esa búsqueda mencionada en la primera frase. El nivel que alcances como jugador o equipo, a largo plazo, es mucho menos relevante que lo que aprendes en el proceso de tratar de convertirte en la mejor versión de ti mismo.

Jugadores, al comenzar la temporada recuerden que…

• La manera en que perseguimos la excelencia es más importante que la excelencia en sí misma.
• Nuestro oponente es un socio en nuestro desarrollo y, sin él, no tendríamos juego ni oportunidad de sobresalir.
• Aprendemos mucho más de la adversidad que del éxito, y cada revés aparente es en realidad una oportunidad de crecimiento.
• Los árbitros son humanos y cometerán errores, pero están ahí para hacer un trabajo honesto. Merecen ser tratados con dignidad y respeto en todo momento.

Padres y familiares…

• Recuerden que nuestro comportamiento en la línea de banda siempre está siendo observado por alguien, y con nuestras acciones enseñamos y modelamos mucho más que con nuestras palabras.
• Únanse a NorCal en el esfuerzo de hacer que la línea de banda sea una experiencia más positiva para jugadores, entrenadores y árbitros tomando el Compromiso de la Línea de Banda para eliminar comportamientos disruptivos y distracciones.

Finalmente, US Soccer ha publicado recientemente nuevas directrices relacionadas con la Prevención del Abuso a los Árbitros. Como primer paso, US Soccer ha establecido definiciones más claras sobre el abuso a los árbitros y ha asignado suspensiones mínimas obligatorias para cada categoría. NorCal cree firmemente que el abuso dirigido a cualquier persona no tiene lugar en nuestro juego y trabajará para implementar estas nuevas directrices junto con US Soccer, US Club y nuestros socios árbitros. Como recordatorio, NorCal responsabiliza a los entrenadores y clubes por el comportamiento de sus espectadores, lo que significa que el comportamiento de los espectadores puede resultar en una tarjeta roja y suspensión para el entrenador, o sanciones para el club en su conjunto. Recomendamos encarecidamente a todos los padres y espectadores que lean las nuevas directrices de US Soccer, así como la orientación emitida por NorCal Premier a los árbitros, y se unan a nosotros para crear un mejor ambiente de fútbol para todos.
