U9/U10 State Cup Second Round and Quarterfinals Recap

Last weekend at three different sites around the state, the U10 age group completed their round 2 and quarterfinal matchups, meaning that there are just four teams left in each division as we head into Finals Weekend this Saturday and Sunday.

The U10s will be joined by the U9s, who completed their round 2 and quarterfinal games two weeks ago, at Davis Legacy Soccer Complex and Granite Park. This weekend will begin with semifinal matchups, with the winning teams advancing to the final, all of which will take place in Davis.

“Thanks to our unique reseeding process, we had two weekends of very competitive play featuring many exciting matches,” said U9-U12 State Cup Coordinator John Stoppelmann. “Congradulations to all of the teams who have advanced to Finals Weekend. We’re looking forward to another excellent two days of soccer to cap off the U9/U10 State Cup season.”

The U9 and U10 State Cup began all the way back in September with the first group stage of play, in which each team played three matches hosted by one of the clubs. From there, the teams were reseeded into a second group stage, before being further reseeded for their quarterfinal matchups.

The reseeding process ensures that teams play against similarly skilled opponents, while also giving each team a minimum of seven games.

“We believe that this process leads to the best possible development for the kids,” Stoppelmann said.

Overall, 780 teams have participated in the U9 and U10 State Cup, with those advancing to Finals Weekend competing for 103 different titles.

In the State Division, NorCal’s highest level of play offered, 11 different clubs are still in the mix for the chance to call themselves NorCal Premier Soccer’s true State Cup champion.

Leading the way are Mustang SC and Santa Clara Sporting, who each have three different teams in the semifinals, while Placer United have two squads still alive.

Other clubs to qualify for the semifinals include Albion SC Merced, CV Futbol Academy, Davis Legacy, Marin FC, Modesto Ajax United, MVLA, Pleasanton RAGE, and Yuba Elite.
