U9 State Cup Second Round, Quarterfinals Kick Off This Weekend

For the first time in the 2025/26 season, NorCal Premier Soccer is hosting State Cup matches at neutral sites as the second stage of group play and quarterfinal matches take place this Saturday and Sunday at three different venues around the state.

The U9 age group will be in action this weekend, playing three group stage games followed by a single elimination match set for Sunday at either Davis Legacy Soccer Complex, Granite Park in Sacramento, or Mistlin Sports Park in Ripon.

“This is always one of the most anticipated weekends in the season for the younger age groups as hundreds of teams gather in the same area to produce a really vibrant atmosphere,” said U9-U12 State Cup Coordinator John Stoppelmann. “We expect a series of evenly matched games.”

To ensure that the games are evenly matched, NorCal re-seeds teams after they participated in a first group stage earlier in the fall. After the second group stage, teams are then re-seeded again into quarterfinal brackets, with the event becoming single elimination from there.

“At NorCal, we believe that development is paramount and the best way for players to develop is to match them up against other players and teams that have a similar skill level,” Stoppelmann said. “This also keeps the kids engaged and ensures that there are fewer blowouts, which don’t help either team improve.”

For those who win their quarterfinal matchups, the semifinals and finals will take place on November 8 and 9 at Davis Legacy Soccer Complex and Granite Park. All finals will take place in Davis.

Overall, the U9 division began with 360 teams playing a total of 1840 games. The U10 division, which includes 420 teams, will play their round 2 and quarterfinal matchups November 1 and 2 at Granite Park, Mistlin Sports Park, or Morgan Hill Outdoor Sports Center.

Like the U9s, the U10s will conclude their finals on November 8 and 9 at the same locations.
