U15-U19 State Cup Semifinals Recap

The penultimate round of the U15-U19 NorCal State Cup concluded this past weekend as teams from all across the state traveled to Davis Legacy Soccer Complex and Turlock Regional Sports Complex to take part in the semifinals.

Just two teams remain in most divisions, with the finals set for May 31 and June 1 at Cosumnes River College in Sacramento.

“This past weekend featured a ton of exciting action in all divisions as several games went down to the wire,” said NorCal State Cup Coordinator Brian Voltattorni. “NorCal would like to congratulate all teams that are still alive–making the final is a tremendous accomplishment.”

Overall, 40 titles are still up for grabs, meaning there are fewer than 100 teams left in a competition that began all the way back in the fall with a group stage.

After the group stage concluded, teams were then put in knockout round brackets, with many divisions starting in the round of 32. To make it to Finals Weekend, most teams had to win four consecutive matches.

In the State Division, NorCal’s highest level that determines which team can truly call themselves State Cup champions, 10 different clubs qualified for the final.

Of those 10 clubs, Albion SC Merced, Clovis Crossfire, and Mustang SC each will have two teams fighting for a chance to lift the trophy.

They’ll be joined by Bay Area Surf, Folsom Lake Surf, Marin FC, Reno APEX, Solano Surf, TSP FC, and Turlock Academica Jrs.

Additionally, there are three State Division semifinals that have yet to take place, with two Mustang SC sides and two San Juan South teams in contention to make the final alongside solitary squads from IR Academy and West Coast Soccer.

“Finals Weekend will be a truly special event as deserving teams from all around Northern California will put everything on the line to lift the trophy,” Voltattorni said. “We’re looking forward to hosting yet another great celebration of the beautiful game on May 31 and June 1 in Sacramento.”
