U10-U14 Super Rec Cup Takes Place This Weekend

FIRDAY, NOV 14TH UPDATE: We regret to announce that all games scheduled at Granite Regional Park for this weekend’s Super Rec Cup have been canceled due to field closures caused by heavy rain. Standing water on the fields, along with additional rain in the forecast, has made conditions unplayable and unsafe.
This cancellation affects only the games at Granite Regional Park—primarily the U14 age group. The majority of Super Rec Cup programming will continue as planned, as the second site, Cherry Island, remains open. Teams impacted by these cancellations will be notified directly.
This weekend the second of two Super Rec Cups will take place, with U9-U14 teams in action at Cherry Island Soccer Complex and Granite Regional Park in Sacramento.
Created to provide a fun and competitive end-of-season tournament experience for grassroots or recreational-level teams, the NorCal Super Rec Cup is an open competition that accepts any recreational player registration under the US Soccer umbrella.
Since its establishment earlier this decade, the event has grown each year, turning into something each of the players look forward to capping off their seasons.
“Since I was hired three years ago, the Super Rec Cup has undergone a tremendous evolution,” said NorCal Grassroots Development Manager Andrew Taylor. “The competition has not only grown in size, but also in its quality of play.”
During the tournament, each team will play in three group stage matches, before cutting to the knockout rounds for those who have earned enough points to qualify.
Overall, 186 teams are scheduled to play for 25 different titles.
“We’re excited about the expansion of the Super Rec Cup for our younger age groups–we made the decision to move the event from December to earlier in the year based on club feedback,” Taylor said. “This was met with an overwhelming number of applications, with more than 250 teams applying.”
Due to the interest, NorCal opened up a second venue for a competition that was originally scheduled for just Cherry Island.
“The explosion in demand isn’t a surprise, but we didn’t realize the Super Rec Cup would grow this much, this fast,” Taylor said. “We plan on increasing capacity and expanding even more for next year to ensure we don’t have a waitlist.”
“It’s going to be amazing to see so many teams competing for the chance to become Super Rec Cup champions this weekend,” Taylor added. “The investment that NorCal has made in grassroots programming and in the recreational space has provided an amazing opportunity for these players and families to experience such an event.”
