NorCal Matchday #10

As we move into the last full month of gameplay, action in the U10 State Cup heats up again this weekend as three different sites will host second group stage and quarterfinal play. Those who are victorious in their quarterfinal matchups will qualify for November 8 and 9’s Finals Weekend, making this weekend important for all teams involved.

Here are your games of the week:

U10 Girls State Cup
11/1Davis Legacy
10:10 a.m. @ Morgan Hill 7
Santa Clara Sporting
Both Davis Legacy and Santa Clara Sporting went undefeated in the first group stage, making their Saturday morning matchup one of the highlights of all U10 play this weekend. Legacy have scored 17 goals and allowed just three in three previous State Cup matches. Meanwhile, Santa Clara Sporting are unbeaten in both State Cup and league play this fall, meaning this game could be the continuation of an incredible run.
U10 Girls State Cup
11/1Burlingame SC
10:10 a.m. @ Morgan Hill 5
Granite Bay FC
In what some are calling the Group of Death, Burlingame SC and Granite Bay FC are pooled with teams that totaled eight wins and just two losses in the first group stage. Any of the six games could decide who finishes first, but we've chosen to focus on the first game, where Burlingame SC takes their high-octane offense (25 goals in the first group stage) against Granite Bay's stingy defense (one goal allowed in the first group stage).
U10 Boys State Cup
11/1Mustang SC
1:40 p.m. @ Morgan Hill 21
Marin FC
Marin FC come into the second group stage of play after having won the whole competition the prior year. They built on that progress in the first group stage, scoring 17 goals while allowing just three. Meanwhile, Mustang SC will be hoping to dethrone the champion after coming off three straight wins in which they combined to score 20 total goals.
U10 Boys State Cup
11/1Walnut Creek Surf
1:40 p.m. @ Morgan Hill 17
De Anza Force
Walnut Creek Surf reached the final of State Cup last year, but fell in a close match against Marin FC. Their campaign to reach the same stage this year, however, couldn't be going better. In the first group stage they scored 22 goals, while they also currently sit in first place of their league. Their opponents in De Anza Force also fell to Marin FC last year, though in the semifinal round. Like Surf, De Anza have shown strong on multiple fronts--they scored 22 goals in the first group stage and are also currently in first place in their league.
