NorCal Hosts First of Two Super Rec Cups

In a competition that has become an annual end-of-season tradition for NorCal Premier Soccer’s many recreational and grassroots-level teams, the U16-U19 Super Rec Cup took place this past weekend at Davis Legacy Soccer Complex.
Designed to provide a positive culmination of the season for any recreational player registered under the US Soccer umbrella, the Super Rec Cup gives teams high-quality games against a wide variety of opponents from different parts of Northern California.
This past weekend, 78 teams competed for 11 different division titles, with each playing three group stage games before the knockout stage of the competition.
“Since I was hired three years ago, the Super Rec Cup has undergone a tremendous evolution,” said NorCal Grassroots Development Manager Andrew Taylor. “The competition has not only grown in size, but also in its quality of play.”
“It was great seeing these teams out there competing in each and every game,” Taylor added. “NorCal is continuing to invest in its grassroots programming and it’s starting to show in the standard of the participants in the Super Rec Cup. I personally look forward to this event every year, knowing that these teams have worked hard and use this tournament as their season finale.”

Overall, nine different clubs took home titles over the weekend, with Capital Valley FC and Elk Grove Soccer each providing two champions.
Other winners included Benicia Soccer, Del Dayo SC, Konocti YSL, Placer Hills Youth Soccer, Rohnert Park SC, Roseville YSC, and Winters AYSO.
This past Saturday and Sunday’s competition was the first of two Super Rec Cups scheduled for the fall–the U8-U14 divisions will play in their own competition November 15 and 16 at Cherry Island Soccer Complex in Sacramento.
