Four NorCal Teams Take Home California Cup Titles

This past weekend at Surf Sports Park in Del Mar, NorCal Premier Soccer had its most successful run yet in the California Cup, a competition that pits the finalists of NorCal and SOCAL Soccer League’s State Cup against each other.
Overall, four different sides captured titles, while three further squads finished as runners-up in the two-day event that featured the U9-U12 age groups.

“From players, coaches, and parents, everyone loves the idea of the California Cup,” said NorCal State Cup Coordinator Brian Voltattorni. “Every NorCal team had an amazing experience competing against the best of SOCAL and their feedback confirmed why this event was put together.”
Each of the teams who qualified for the California Cup participated in a three game group stage, with the prior State Cup final counting as the first game, meaning that all NorCal sides played two teams from SOCAL to round out that part of the competition.
Based on how each team did, they then either made Sunday’s final or third place game.

ECFC Salinas (U12 boys), Marin FC (U11 boys), and MVLA (U10 girls), and Placer United (U12 girls) all lifted the trophy this past weekend, while Burlingame SC (U11 boys), MVLA (U12 girls) and San Juan SC (U11 girls) each made the final but ultimately came up short.
These results surpassed NorCal’s previous best, which came in 2025 when three local sides claimed titles, with two others reaching the championship match.

Overall, there were several exciting matchups, with the MVLA’s U10 girls tying Legends FC, one of SOCAL’s top clubs, 5-5 in the group stage before winning against them in the final on penalties after a 4-4 draw.

Meanwhile, there were also two all-NorCal finals, with Placer United’s U12 girls knocking off MVLA after having lost to them twice in the past few months, and Marin FC defeating Burlingame SC as well.
“This past weekend featured a special atmosphere, with tons of exciting matchups and close games,” Voltattorni said. “This is why we created the California Cup, for weekends like this.”
The California Cup will return to NorCal in 2027, with the two organizations rotating hosting duties each year.
