Pleasanton Rage, Davis Legacy Claim U9 State Cup Titles

While most age groups are still participating in NorCal Premier Soccer’s State Cup championships, the U9 division completed its docket of matches this past weekend at Woodward Park in Manteca, with two squads raising the trophy to claim titles in the State Division.

Despite the challenging conditions for all teams, two squads stood at the podium following all the action: Pleasanton Rage for the girls and Davis Legacy for the boys.

Pleasanton Rage 3 – Santa Clara Sporting 1

After scoring seven goals combined in the previous two rounds, the strong Pleasanton Rage attack didn’t let up in the final, scoring three goals in a 3-1 victory against Santa Clara Sporting. The Rage got on the board early, finding the opener in just the 11th minute before Sporting equalized two minutes later. But Pleasanton wouldn’t back down, taking the lead in the 17th minute before putting the game out of reach in the 50th to claim the title of the top division that NorCal has to offer.

Davis Legacy 3 – Mustang SC 2

Coming into the second final of the day, it looked like Mustang SC were the clear favorites after having scoring an incredible 14 goals in the previous two games, while Davis Legacy pulled out a pair of one-goal victories on their road to the final. But despite Mustang’s high-powered offense, it was Legacy who would come away with the title. Mustang scored first and led 1-0 at the half, but Davis equalized with a free kick before taking the lead. Mustang would tie the game up, leaving the game destined to end regular time level. However, the Legacy were awarded a corner kick with time expiring and made the most of it, with Jonah Duhab volleying the set piece in to give Davis a 3-2 victory.

Congrats to Pleasanton Rage and Davis Legacy on their victories and to all the teams that participated in the tournament. Information regarding makeup dates for the U10 State Cup division will be announced in the coming weeks.
