NorCal Matchday #10: ECNL-RL Title Races

While this weekend’s NorCal College Showcase at Davis Legacy Soccer Complex will see more than 100 college coaches in attendance, it will also see several ECNL-RL title races come down to the wire. In the six divisions that will feature games at the event, five have yet to be decided.

Here are your games of the week:

U16 Girls ECNL-RL
5/17MVLA
8:30 a.m. @ Field 7
Stanislaus United
With a perfect 36 points from 12 games, MVLA have already claimed the U16 Girls ECNL-RL title, however they'll look to cap off their season in an unbeaten fashion and will face a strong Stanislaus United side that currently sits second in the standings.
U17 Girls ECNL-RL
5/17Stanislaus United
12:10 p.m. @ Field 7
North Coast FC
There are just two teams left in contention for the U17 Girls ECNL-RL title: North Coast FC and Stanislaus United. The pair meet on Saturday in what is essentially a title game, but with a caveat. A win for either side will see them claim the title, however if the game ends in a draw, the championship won't be decided until Sunday. North Coast currently have one more point than Stanislaus, but will be finished playing matches Saturday, while Stanislaus face the San Francisco Vikings on Sunday. A draw and then a win on Sunday would give Stanislaus the title, while a draw and then a loss would see the trophy go to the North Bay. If there's a draw Saturday and Sunday, the division would be decided by goal differential due to the teams playing to a 2-2 draw earlier in the season. Stanislaus would then win championship due to a slightly better goal differential.
U19 Boys ECNL-RL
5/17TSP FC
2:00 p.m. @ Field 7
Los Gatos United
In the U19 Boys ECNL-RL, three sides are still alive in the title race: Eastshore Alliance, Los Gatos United, and TSP FC. Of the three, Eastshore Alliance head into the weekend with the advantage as they're on 28 points and finish with two matches against the fifth and seventh place teams in the division. However, Los Gatos United currently sit just two points back of Alliance and could claim the championship with at least one win and help from other results. Meanwhile, TSP FC have 23 points and have a slim chance to pickup some hardware with two victories, but should Eastshore garner at least one point from either of their two games, TSP will be eliminated due to Alliance sweeping the season series.
U17 Boys ECNL-RL
5/17Los Gatos United
3:50 p.m. @ Field 7
De Anza Force
Win this game, you win the title. That's the situation that Los Gatos United finds itself in as it prepares to face third place De Anza Force in Saturday afternoon's U17 Boys ECNL-RL matchup. United currently top the table with 35 points from 14 games, one point ahead of Turlock Academica Jrs. However, Turlock have played one more game than Los Gatos have and therefore can only reach a maximum of 37 points. Should Los Gatos fail to get a victory against De Anza, they'll have another shot at the title on Sunday against Modesto Ajax United. Turlock will win the league with a win Sunday against SF United FC if Los Gatos either lose both of their matches or lose one and tie one. If Los Gatos draw both of their matches, Turlock will need to win by at least seven goals to lift the trophy.
U16 Boys ECNL-RL
5/17Almaden FC
5:40 p.m. @ Field 7
Albion SC Merced
Three teams are still in contention for the U16 Boys ECNL-RL title: Albion SC Merced, Turlock Academica Jrs, and South Valley Chivas. Of the three, Ablion are currently in the driver's seat with 27 points compared to 25 from Turlock, and 23 from South Valley. To clinch the title, Albion need just four points, or for Turlock and/or South Valley to drop points. Should both Albion and Turlock lose all of their games this weekend, Chivas could claim the title with a pair of victories.
U19 Girls ECNL-RL
5/18San Juan SC
2:00 p.m. @ Field 7
Walnut Creek Surf
This matchup between second place Walnut Creek Surf and third place San Juan SC could come after the U19 Girls ECNL-RL title has already been decided. IR Academy head into the weekend in first place with 33 points and a game in hand on Walnut Creek, who have 31 points. That means that a victory for IR on either day will give them the title, as will a pair of draws. Should IR draw one and lose one, Walnut Creek will need to win this game and make up goal differential to lift the trophy. Meanwhile, with just 24 points, San Juan are out of contention, just like every other team in the division.
