LIGA NorCal Matchday No. 3

After three weeks of LIGA NorCal play, the table is starting to come together, with teams having a better idea of how their seasons might fare. This past weekend saw several high-intensity games, with a few even coming down to a wire in what has been an exciting season of adult soccer so far. Here is your LIGA NorCal Game of the Week recap:

Dublin Celtic 2 – Club Marin 4

Goalscorers: Marin: Rojas (2), Borges, Garcia

Celtic: Jimenez, Guzman

In a back-and-forth match, Club Marin went on the road to face Dublin Celtic and managed to garner all three points in a 4-2 victory that saw them keep their perfect streak alive on the season.

Jason Borges scored first, tallying in just the 11th minute before Oswaldo Rojas made it 2-0 in the 22nd. Dublin then responded with a strike from Antonio Jimenez before Julian Garcia helped Marin regain their two-goal advantage with a goal in the 31st minute.

Still, Dublin wouldn’t lie down as Joshua Guzman scored just before halftime to make it 3-2, leading to an exciting finish where Celtic pressed for the equalizer.

And while the hosts sent numbers into the attack in hopes of getting at least a point, their effort fell short in stoppage time as Rojas scored his second of the night in the only scoring effort of the second half.

“We had many chances to put the game away early, but didn’t, and to Dublin’s credit, they never gave up and kept it close until the closing minutes of the game when we put the final nail in the coffin,” said Marin manager Tighe O’Sullivan. “It was a spirited and very intense game and we were happy with the result.”

Added Celtic’s Andrew Barrett: “It was a spirited and well-contested match, with a young Dublin side being outdone by the experience of Club Marin.”
