U16 Boys State Quarterfinals Recap

U16 BOYS STATE QUARTERFINAL A
5/6EBU Bay Oaks
0-3
Lamorinda United
Ten-man NPL 3 side EBU Bay Oaks Gold did their best to hold out for an upset over NPL 1 squad Lamorinda Navy, but ultimately Lamorinda’s quality — not to mention the man advantage — saw them through to the semifinals. After a tense 35 minutes, Adrian Guzman provided the eventual game winner before an own goal and a red card around halftime downed EBU. Victor Quintanilla put the icing on the cake in the last minute of the game, capping a dominating performance for Lamorinda.
U16 BOYS STATE QUARTERFINAL B
5/6Turlock Tornados
3-0
EC Real Galaxy
Coming into the match, this game between the Turlock Tornados and EC Real Salinas Galaxy looked to be on the closest on paper, and it certainly didn’t disappoint in terms of quality attacking play. The scoreline will read Turlock 3 - Galaxy 0, but the match really could have gone either way as the Galaxy had a penalty saved, before Roberto Ceja scored a goal and Sergio Anaya Montes added a brace to down the unlucky Galaxy.
U16 BOYS STATE QUARTERFINAL C
5/6SC Sporting
2-1
Odyssey South
Though Santa Clara Sporting scored a pair of first half goals in this match, Odyssey South Black stuck with Sporting for the entire match, and didn’t make life easy on their opponents. Sporting took the lead in just the second minute through Andrew Garcia, before doubling it with a Casey Wortham strike in the 35th. Sebastian Caballero-Lopez made it a game again three minutes later with a goal, but Sporting saw the game out late, as the NPL 1 side in Santa Clara advanced to the semifinals at the expense of their NPL 2 counterparts.
U16 BOYS STATE QUARTERFINAL D
5/6Atletico Santa Rosa
0-2
SJ Earthquakes
Fresh off an NPL Champions League title, SJ Earthquakes 01 PDA initially struggled to break down an Atletico Santa Rosa Bayern squad that had given them their only loss of the NPL season one week prior. But in this physical match, Atletico had a player sent off and goals from Rayshawn Free and Erik Martinez-Rojas turned the tables from their previous result and sent the Earthquakes into the semifinals.
