U16 Boys NPL Spring Showcase: Preview
U16 BOYS CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
In one of the most exciting divisions, three squads enter the final weekend of Boys U16 Champions League play with a legitimate shot at claiming the title. Of the three, the San Jose Earthquakes (5-0-0) appear to have the best shot at the championship, but play both the second and third place, Atletico Santa Rosa (4-0-1) and Davis Legacy (4-1-0) teams for their last two games. In order to try and catapult themselves ahead of the Earthquakes, both Atletico and the Legacy also face tough matches against fourth-place Turlock Tornados (2-2-1).
U16 BOYS NPL 1
With games continuing all the way up until May 21, it’s unlikely that the the Boys U16 NPL 1 will be decided at the showcase. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of quality games and drama in this division. SF Elite Academy leads the way heading into the weekend with a 4-0-1 record, but 3-0-0 Lamorinda have yet to drop points. The pair of sides face off early Saturday, while Diablo FC (2-2-0) and Santa Clara Sporting (2-1-0) look to get back into the title race this weekend.
U16 BOYS NPL 2
Should 4-0-1 Star Academy FC win out, the Boys U16 NPL 2 title will be theirs. In their way this weekend: a pair of tough tests in third-place FC Elk Grove (2-2-1) and fifth-place Atlas Academy Merced (1-0-3). Nipping at the heels of Star Academy are 2-1-2 Juventus SC, who will need to win both of their weekend games and hope that Star drops points in order to return to the forefront of the title race.
U16 BOYS NPL 3
With three sides on the top of the table separated by just three points, the Boys U16 NPL 3 should go down to the wire this weekend. 4-1-0 East Bay United sit in the driver’s seat and can clinch the division Sunday with at least a point against third-place Heritage SC (3-1-1) if they win their Saturday game against fifth-place Monarcas Academy (2-2-1). Also in the title race are second-place California Odyssey (3-1-1), who take on Mustang (1-1-2) and Santa Rosa United (0-3-1) on the weekend.
