U15 Girls NorCal Spring Showcase: Preview
The match of the weekend for this division comes early, when league-leaders MVLA (13 points) meet fourth-place Ajax United (10 points). A win for MVLA in that match will wrap up the title with a game to play, but an Ajax United victory would certainly make things interesting as Marin FC (10 points) and OV Toros (10 points) both can finish with 13 points. But because Marin and the Toros have played one more game than everyone else, their margins for error are smaller. There are a number of complicated scenarios in which Marin FC and OV Toros could come out with the title, but each would need a series of results to go perfectly their way in order to do so.
Because of earlier results, first-place Pajaro Valley (13 points) could enter their final fixture of the season already having wrapped up the title thanks to earlier results. With Pajaro already having beaten second-place MVLA (10 points), only third-place Walnut Creek (seven points) can capture the title from Pajaro. To do that, Walnut Creek will need to win Saturday against San Juan SC (two points) and then defeat Pajaro Sunday.
Thanks to an odd number of teams in this division, the top two sides in California Thorns (10 points) and Livermore Fusion (eight points) have each played one more game than the rest of the teams in the NPL 2. And with that game in hand, two other sides are in contention for the league title: Atletico Santa Rosa (seven points) and Palo Alto SC (six points), but both will need a pair of wins and some help in order to win this league.
While four sides are still in contention for the NPL 3 title, it’s really 13-point Mustang SC’s to lose as the side needs just a win on Sunday against second-place California Odyssey (10 points). Other sides who have a shot at it are, Blues FC (10 points) and Diablo FC (nine points), but even if those two teams don’t come away from the title, they will want to make they finish in a top-four spot to ensure automatic NPL qualification for the fall.
