Two NorCal PDP players attend National Camp in Bradenton for U17 National Team/Residency Program
Back in February of this year, NorCal Premier League’s PDP organized a try-out for Boys 1994 for the U17 National Team at Mustang Soccer Complex where over 100 players attended. Two more screenings followed in March (Santa Clara University) and June (Sonoma State University).
Rene Miramontes (National Coach, Region IV) and Keith Fulk (U17 Men’s National Team Assistant Coach) attended the third screening and observed 40 players. They were impressed with the talent and pleasantly surprised to see players that had never been noticed before at other tryouts and tournament showcases.
NorCal’s PDP is free of charge for players; for this reason, it offers opportunities to any type of player. The National coaches really appreciated NorCal’s program – from the quality of the fields and locations to the selected players and administration. NorCal Premier League’s PDP looks forward to continue working with and supporting the National staff and its efforts to find new talent in the NorCal region. Below is an interview with National Camp attendee Diego Lopez.
Diego Lopez (Toluca) from Atletico Santa Rosa was invited to train with the 1992, 1993 and 1994 boys U.S. Soccer U-17 MNT at the IMG Academies in Bradenton, Florida, from September 23rd to September 26, for the U.S. Soccer’s U-17 MNT Residency Program. When asked how it went, his response was pure excitement! He said, “There were about thirty-five to forty players that attended. Three or four were from Northern California. The first day we practiced twice a day with one session in the morning and an afternoon session as well. The rest of the week we only trained in the mornings. It felt so good to be there and I had a great experience. I want to thank all Atletico Santa Rosa (coaches, players and families), Norcal League (PDP directors and coach’s) and everyone who in one way or another helped me to make this happen”.
