NPL Match Day #9

In what was the last chance for most teams to bolster their records before this weekend’s NorCal Premier Soccer NPL Fall College Showcase in Davis and Modesto, many of the results went chalk. But that doesn’t mean that they weren’t exciting — far from it. It was another weekend of exciting action as clubs looked to secure coveted spots in the spring’s Champions League.

2017-18 NorCal NPL Schedules and Results

Friday, November 10th

U17 BOYS NPL 1 NORTH

Union Sacramento 2, Atletico Santa Rosa 2

Union Goals: Galeana 2
Atletico Goals: Mojica, Soto

With a win assuring Atletico Santa Rosa (14 points) a berth in the spring’s Champions League, the visitors got off to an amazing start over Union (10 points). Going up 2-0 early thanks to goals from Ivan Mojica and Alan Soto, Santa Rosa looked to have booked their place thanks to a hot start. But a penalty from Adrian Galeana shortly after Soto’s goal brought the scoreline back to 2-1. Galeana scored again later to draw the game level, only for Atletico’s Angel Ramirez to take the lead again on a late header. Or so Santa Rosa thought. The goal was called back for offside and the visitors were forced to rue missed chances.

Sunday, November 12th

U16 GIRLS NPL 1 WEST

Marin FC 2, Force North 0

Marin Goals: Dillon, Prosnitz

Needing a win to clinch Champions League qualification, Marin FC (19 points) never let Force North (6 points) into the game. Shannon Watridge set up an Abby Dillon goal before Jordan Cushner turned provider to Eliana Prosnitz in a 2-0 victory for Marin. The win assured that this weekend’s NPL College Showcase would be a stress free environment for Marin, but not for Force, who now sit three points out of the qualification zone.
