(3-5)
Ceres Earthquake
For 49 minutes of play, it looked as if Monarcas Academy would cruise to victory in this matchup as Brandon Leon and Alex Tejada-Garcia scored first half goals to put Monarcas ahead of Ceres Earthquake by a two goal margin. But Jose Yepez then came to the rescue for Ceres Earthquake, scoring in the 49th and 75th minutes to put his side in overtime, where they witheld the pressure to force kicks from the mark. From there, Ceres proved too good at spot kicks and defeated Monarcas via a 5-3 margin.
U15 BOYS STATE SEMIFINAL B
5/12Central Valley Leon
1-1
(5-3)
Napa Soccer Academy
Early on, it appeared as if Napa Soccer Academy would run away with this one as the North Bay side scored just 21 minutes into the game on an opportunistic strike from Luis Saldana. But what proved to down Napa in the end was their inability to add on a second goal despite sending waves of attackers into Central Valley Leon’s final third. As time ticked down, Central Valley began to have more and more of the play and were finally rewarded in the 71st minute when Julian Lomeli made a late run into the box to scrappily finish off a chance that sent the game into overtime and then kicks from the mark, where Leon prevailed.
