NorCal State Cup Quarterfinals Recap: U19 Boys

U19 BOYS STATE QUARTERFINAL A
4/29Folsom Lake Quakes
2-1
Monarcas
In what was a goalless affair heading into the second half, a flurry of scoring in a four-minute period provided the majority of the action in this quarterfinal. The Folsom Lake Earthquakes scored first through an opportunistic goal from Ryan Kwong in the 60th minute, only for Monarcas Academy to equalize two minutes later on a penalty from Devon Alvarenga. But two minutes after that, Folsom were celebrating again as Ethan Veirs scored the winning goal to put the Earthquakes through.
U19 BOYS STATE QUARTERFINAL B
4/29MVLA Blue
3-2
OT
Alpine Strikers
In what was surely one of the games of the weekend, MVLA entered overtime against the Alpine Strikers tied 1-1 -- Oliver De Visser’s strike for MVLA was cancelled out by a goal from Aidan Wall. But there were still three goals to be had, as Harry Allen scored in both the 92nd and 95th minutes for MVLA, only for the Strikers to make it interesting with a 97th minute goal from Cory Hill.
U19 BOYS STATE QUARTERFINAL C
4/29SC Sporting 00 Green
1-0
Atletico Santa Rosa
One of the most physical games of the weekend came down to a simple moment of brilliance as the sun was setting on Mary Grogan Park Sunday night. Two minutes before halftime, Sporting’s Joshua Robinson struck to give Santa Clara a victory and keep the defending State Cup finalists’ dream of winning this year’s competition alive.
U19 BOYS STATE QUARTERFINAL D
4/29Force Academy II
1-2
Marin FC 99 Blue
While neither side could find a goal in the first half of this matchup, Marin FC came out of the gate quicker in the second period, with Aidan Ryan scoring just four minutes after the break. Stefan Jung doubled the Marin lead in the 63rd minute, a goal that proved imperative after a Francisco Negrete penalty put De Anza Force on the board in the third minute of stoppage time. But it was too little, too late for the Force, who will now go home while Marin advance to the next round.
