NorCal-State-Cup

Knockout Phase Draw

Ahead of the Knockout Round of the 2016-17 State Cup, NorCal Premier Soccer will host the final draw this Wednesday starting at 9 AM. The draw will be streamed live on our Facebook and Instagram pages with the following format: The 1st and 2nd place teams from any Group Stage division (ie State/Premier) will move into the higher division of play while the third and fourth place teams from a division will move into the lower division of play.

2017 NorCal State Cup Knockout Phase Pots and Brackets

For each Knockout division teams will again be placed into pots (1-4) based on:

  1. Finish in Group (1st/2nd or 3rd/4th)
  2. Points in Group
  3. Event Tiebreakers

Each team is represented by a labeled ping pong ball. Pots 1 and 2 will consist of the group winners (or 3rd place finishers) and pots 3 and 4 will consist of the group runners up (or 4th place finishers). The teams in Pot 1 (group winners with most points) will be drawn into the best positions in the Knockout Phase bracket. Next, Pot 2 (group winners with fewest points) will be drawn, followed by Pot 3 (runners up with most points), and finally Pot 4 (runners up with least points). Teams from the same Group Stage division cannot be drawn play against one another in the Round of 32. If the runner up is drawn against their group winner in the Round of 32, the runner up will be placed in the next highest spot on the opposite side of the bracket.

Draw Results – Posted August 5th

Process

NorCal will announce the Group Stage division (State/Premier, Gold/Silver, Bronze/Copper, etc) and location (East, North, South, West) being drawn.

Labeled ping pong balls for the division and location are placed in the four pots.

NorCal will announce the Group letter (A, B, C, etc) being drawn. First, team teams in Pot 1 will be drawn with one team placed in each Pot 1 position. Next Pot 2 will be drawn, followed by Pot 3 and Pot 4.

Teams from the same club cannot be drawn together. If this occurs, the drawn team will take the next available open spot for their pot. For example, if a team from Pot 2 is drawn with their club in Group A, the Pot 2 team will take the open spot in Group B.

If any teams are missing from the pot a redraw will occur for the division and location (not for the entire Group Stage) with the correct teams entered. If every team is drawn from the pot the draw will be official for the division and location.

The process will start over again with the teams from next location (East, North, South, West).

Preliminary Round Draw

For each age group, the first draw conducted was Preliminary Round Draw. Teams were grouped based on division (State/Silver, State/Gold, Gold/Bronze) and location (East, North, South, West). Each team was represented with a labeled ping pong ball with their team name.

Draw Results – Posted August 5th

Process

NorCal will announce the Preliminary division (State/Silver, State/Gold, Gold/Bronze) and location (East, North, South, West) being drawn.

Labeled ping pong balls for the division and location are placed in the pot.

NorCal will announce the Preliminary game number being drawn. The first team drawn out of the pot will be the home team and the second team drawn will be the away team. The process will continue until all teams from the location have been drawn into each of the Preliminary games for that division.

Teams from the same club cannot be drawn together. If this occurs, the drawn team will take the next available open spot.

If any teams are missing from the pot a redraw will occur for the division and location (not for the entire Preliminary Round) with the correct teams entered. If every team is drawn from the pot the draw will be official for the division and location.

The process will start over again with the teams and Prelim games from the next location (East, North, South, West).
