U16 Girls NPL Spring Showcase: Preview

U16 GIRLS CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

The marquee match-up for the Girls U16 Champions League comes Saturday at 3:20 when first-place Davis Legacy (4-1-0) take on second-place Lamorinda (3-1-1). A win for the Legacy will give them the Champions League title with a game remaining in the season, while a win or draw for Lamorinda will keep their title hopes open. Also hoping for a win or draw from Lamorinda are third-place Force (3-2), who have an outside chance at the title. The Pleasanton Rage (2-1-2) are also still in the title race, but would need a series of fortunate results to claim this division’s championship.

U16 GIRLS NPL 1

In an oddly scheduled division, 3-0-0 Placer United enter the College Showcase as the favorites to win the Girls U16 NPL 1. This weekend, Placer plays two teams, who have a combined three points, but have played just four total games so far. All the teams in this division are alive for the title race, but Union Sacramento (1-1-2) and Central California Soccer Alliance (1-0-1) have to be considered the favorites to contend with Placer.

U16 GIRLS NPL 2

2-0-3 Walnut Creek enter the weekend with a five-point lead on top of the Girls U16 NPL 2, but have played two more matches than the next two teams in the standings: 1-1-1 Vision Academy and Sacramento United. Walnut Creek only plays once this weekend, against PSV Union (1-0-0), who have somehow played four fewer games than Walnut Creek. Regardless of what this division currently looks like, expect it to look much different after the showcase, with a title possibly not being claimed until matches end two weeks later.

U16 GIRLS NPL 3

California Odyssey (4-0-0) are completely in the driver’s seat for the Girls U16 NPL 3 title, having not even allowed a goal so far in the season. The Odyssey can clinch the division title early, with a 5:10 p.m. Saturday match against second-place Force North (2-0-2). Should the Odyssey win, they’ll claim the title, but a draw or a loss will put Force back in the title race. Third-place Impact Green (1-1-2) and fourth-place Pleasanton Rage (1-1-2) will hope for a Force loss in order to climb into their highest possible spots: second place.
