NPL Weekly: September 22nd-23rd Recap

Though as the weather goes the season officially left summer and entered fall, this past weekend was the fourth fall matchday for most NPL sides across the state. And while temperatures may have cooled off a bit, the play of the teams in Northern California hasn’t as we were again treated to an excellent slate of games over the weekend. Here are your game of the week recaps.

NPL SCHEDULES AND RESULTS

NPL MATCHDAY

U17 Girls Champions League

EBU Bay Oaks 0 – Elk Grove Soccer 0

In our marquee matchup of the week, Elk Grove Soccer came in as the huge favorites against EBU Bay Oaks after entering the season 4-0-0. But the hosts gave the visitors their first blemish of the season in a scoreless draw that improved EBU to 2-1-1 on the season. Despite the draw, Elk Grove soccer remained atop the table, four points clear of second-place Mustang SC, who have a game in hand.

KEY MATCHES

U14 Boys NPL 1 West

Palo Alto SC 0 – Star Academy 3

Star Academy Goals: Ordubadi 3

Heading into this matchup, both Palo Alto SC and Star Academy featured perfect 2-0-0 records and sat at the top of the U14 Boys NPL 1 West table. But then Altai Ordubadi showed up in Palo Alto and delivered a thunderbolt of a hat trick to ensure that only Star Academy would remain undefeated on the season. Ordubadi scored in the third, 43rd, and 79th minutes to combine with stellar goalkeeping from Isaiah Dela Rosa to help Star to a 3-0 victory.

U17 Boys NPL 1 South

CV Surf 3 – Napa Soccer Academy 1

CV Surf Goals: Razo 2, Bolina
Napa Soccer Academy Goals: Sierra

In a wild encounter in U17 Boys NPL 1 South play, Napa Soccer Academy came in with the advantage, having already logged three more points than hosts CV Surf, who had a game in hand. And Napa looked to continue their excellent run of form when David Sierra put the visitors ahead from the spot just five minutes into the game. But CV Surf were awarded a pair of penalties in both halves and Brandon Razo made no mistake in his brace before Devan Bolina put the game out of reach in the 74th minute with a header off of a corner kick.

U19 Girls Champions League

MVLA Milan 3 – Clovis Crossfire 2

MVLA Milan Goals: Sweeney 2, Martin
Clovis Crossfire Goals: Pelayo, Woolf

With a perfect 3-0-0 record heading into the weekend, MVLA weren’t at the top of the table, but needed to keep their good run of form going to make up for the games in hand they possessed. In their way was a tough Clovis Crossfire side, but MVLA came out the stronger team, scoring three times in the first 22 minutes through a brace from Nicole Sweeney and a solitary strike from Aurea Martin. Down 3-0, the Crossfire didn’t give up and scored in the second half on goals from Luna Pelayo and Brooklin Woolf, but ultimately the late comeback fell short as MVLA won 3-2 to enter a three-way tie at the top of the table.
