NorCal NPL Match Day #3

Close to one-third of the NorCal NPL Fall season is now in the books. League standings have started to take shape, which is beginning to separate Champions League contenders and pretenders. In the U19 Girls division, Lamorinda United 98 recovered from a loss in their NPL opener, beating Palo Alto 99, 3-1, to get their season back on track. In the U17 NPL 1 East, West Coast Wildfire moved into first place with a 4-0 win over California Odyssey. FC Elk Grove Platinum 1 extended their lead atop the U15 Girls NPL 1 East with a 2-1 win against Davis Legacy. Finally, on the boys side, Turlock FC created some separation in the U16 NPL 1 East with a 3-0 win over Diablo FC.

FC Elk Grove extended their lead at the top of the NPL 1 East standings with their 2-1 win over Davis Legacy this past Saturday morning at the Davis Legacy Soccer Complex. Kassandra Ceja started the scoring in the 20th minute as FC Elk Grove held the 1-0 lead until halftime. In the 49th minute, Jayden Sanders doubled the FC Elk Grove lead when she stepped up to bury the penalty she drew, after being taken down in the box. Despite being down two goals, Davis did not give up and got back into the match. They were finally able to break down the FC Elk Grove defense in the 62nd minute on a goal from Sidney Klink. This set up a tense final ten minutes and, in the end, Davis was unable to find the equalizer.

Turlock FC took firm control of the NPL 1 East division with a 3-0 win over Diablo FC this past Saturday afternoon at the Turlock Sports Complex. Turlock was out of the gates quickly, putting heavy pressure on Diablo FC leading up to a Roberto Ceja goal in the 10th minute, assisted by Sergio Anaya Montes. In the 19th minute, the players swapped roles as Montes finished off a Ceja pass to double the Turlock lead. Diablo stayed within striking distance, however, the game was iced in the 70th minute when Isaac Juarez scored on another Ceja helper.

Lamorinda United picked up a much needed three points to get back into the Champions League race, beating Palo Alto 99, 3-0, on Saturday night at Wilder Field. Lamorinda was ahead after only five minutes with Caroline Clark finishing after a nice pass from Margaux Clarke. Melissa Wilson doubled the lead in the 28th minute and Lamorinda held a 2-0 lead until halftime. Lamorinda continued to dominate possession and after only nine minutes played in the second half, made it 3-0 on Clark’s second of the match, assisted by Sydney Yuen. Palo Alto pulled one back late, on a goal by Josephine Cotto, but it would not be enough to concern Lamorinda.

Grisham 2, Elsea, Martin
West Coast Wildfire moved into a tie atop the NPL 1 East standings with an impressive 4-0 win over California Odyssey this past Sunday at Las Positas College. After a scoreless first 30 minutes, West Coast were on the board when Kayla Grisham converted a penalty after Rachel McCarthy was brought down in the box. Tatiana Elsea made it 2-0, when she struck past a charging goalkeeper from just inside the 18 yard box. In the second half it was more of the same for West Coast with Grisham finishing cleanly in the 55th minute from a well placed pass from McCarthy. Finally, Sierra Martin put the game to bed in the 78th minute when she finished after an excellently played counter attack by West Coast.
