NorCal Unveils LIGA NorCal Adult Soccer League Structure

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (May 15, 2017) — With the aim of creating a comprehensive system for adult soccer players of all ages, levels, and genders, NorCal Premier Soccer announced the unveiling of the official LIGA NorCal Adult Soccer League Structure.

The plan, which will be implemented after the summer’s LIGA NorCal Adult Summer League season, will eventually see adult teams playing in merit-based divisions with promotion and relegation, as well as create an incentive for clubs to host adult divisions in their tournaments as well as all star games between coaches.

“We offer the infrastructure for players of all ages and levels to play in a competitive and reliable platform,” said NorCal Director of Adult Soccer Cris Gilmore. “We feel that it is imperative that all youth clubs work hard to provide a competitive environment for adult players in their community.”

In addition to the league and tournament play, the plan will see the implementation of an adult State Cup, branded as the “Copa NorCal,” which is open to all teams statewide.

The changes will begin this fall, with a 10-game LIGA Club and LIGA Regional season running from September to December. The top teams from the Liga Regional season will then make up the first-ever LIGA Premier division coming in the fall of 2018. All teams entered this fall will also be awarded the opportunity to qualify for the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

Each LIGA club will host an in-house adult league running 7 v 7, 9 v 9, or 11 v 11 fields of play — NorCal hopes to partner with already-established leagues to join our competition with leagues in Monterey, Modesto, Sonoma Valley, and Sacramento having already expressed interest.
